creating an advert for a product

In this lesson we had to think of a product to make an advertisement for and we had to think of what product we would advertise, name of the product, the slogan and the location to video the advertisement. We also had to create the story line for the advert so we would know what we would be doing when we go out to film.

Product: Deodorant

Name: Immune - We called it Immune because it is saying that if you smell nice then nothing will happen to you.

Slogan: Kids will do anything for Immune - We made this the slogan because its basically saying that kids will really want to use this product.

Target audience: Kids/parents - This is our target audience because kids will love it and also there parents would love to keep there kids safe.

Location of filming: Victoria park

3 Freaky adverts in our Group

In this lesson we were put into groups of three and in my group there is Tana and Gus, They both said that they will try a bit of everything in the advert and Tana said that he is alright at Photoshop and also they they both have props such as a freaky mask and fake blood so we could be able to make out advert more freaky and gory.
Also we had to fill in a sheet that we were given that told us about sound in advertising:

The first advert that we chose out of the three was called 'Little Baby's Ice Cream "This is a special time" this advert is about baby ice cream and on the advert it is showing a man eating his head that was made out of ice cream. The group that i am in thinks that this advert is freaky because he is eating his own head and is covered in ice cream. Through out the advert someone talking all the way through which is called non diegetic sound because you cant see the person that is speaking and there is music box creepy music playing through the hole advert. Through out the hole advertisement it used a close up shot of the mans face.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=erh2ngRZxs0

the second advert that we found was called 'Missing our deals will hunt you' this advert is about phones for you and in the advert it is showing a woman in a car park walking to her car and then there is this little girl appears and keeps following her and then when the woman's in her car the little girls face is at the window next to her. At the start of the advert there is creepy music happening and it gets more and more intense like something is going to happen and then the little girl just appears behind the woman and then appears at the window and speaks to her about the phone without moving her lips so it's like she is using mind control powers to talk to her and it is called non diegetic shot and in the advert they use a different range of shots such as: Wide shot, close up and medium close up.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=N2oL_gXECtg

The last advert that we chose was called 'Baby doll' this advert is about PlayStation 3 and a doll sat in front of it moving and crying. The group thought this was freaky because it is of a baby doll is moving and crying. Also when the baby cries you can see games in her eyes and then when it stops crying the drops of water go back into its eyes. The baby and the PlayStation are in a room all by there self with only white walls around them and lights on the sealing. Also at the end of the advert it shows the PS3 levitating from the ground and then below it some text appears saying 'Play Beyond.' They use quite a few different types of shots in this advert such as: Wide shot, Mid shot, Medium close up, Close up, Extreme close up and Over the shoulder shot. This advert uses diegetic sounds when you can see and hear the baby's mouth opening and it also uses non diegetic sound when you can see the back of the baby and its still making noises but you can see it moving.

Taking pictures using lighting and tripod

In this lesson we have learnt how to set up a red head light and the tripod for the camera, we had to bring in some props to take pictures of so we can learn how to edit them. Below is an image of the setup with the light and tripod with a camera on:
The first image that i took was someone holding a rose with blood coming out his fingers. The props that i needed to use for this image was a fake rose and some fake blood, we had to take the image outside so we didn't get the fake blood on the floor:
This is the image that we took and then i put a black and white filter onto it so it looked more scary, so i used the Hue/ Saturation to bring the saturation of the image all the way down to make the image black and white:
The next thing i did was to play around with this image was i changing the levels using the level tool and i made the image look more realistic, i made the rose brighter and made the blood stand out more:
Then i went back ti the black and white image to try and use the curves tool to see if i could make the image even better so on this image i made the darker bits on the petals and the shadows more darker to make the flower stand out more:

I also shot an image of the rose on the table using the Red head light to light up the rose and then to take a picture with the camera

3 Ghostly images and Simple banner

This lesson we have been asked to create 3 ghostly images using Photoshop and from pictures that we have to off the internet and put them together to create an image by using the images.

This is the first image that i have created and these are the images that i have chose to use:

The first thing i had to do was to cut out the person in the second image so it was just the person without the background so i used the pen tool to draw around him to cut him out of that image and then i had to put it onto the background image of the forest. Next i had to make the person the right size by using Ctrl/ Alt and T so it would select the image and let me drag it in and out so i could make it bigger and smaller. I also used Opacity tool to make the image look more like a ghost and them i made the person and the background black and white by using Images- Adjustments- Hue/ Saturation and then i the Saturation bar and dragged it all the way down.

The second image i did was created by there images:

In there images i had to cut out the image of the wolf and then i put it onto the background image and then i had to change the size by using Ctrl/ Alt and T. Next i had to change the colour of the pictures by using Images- Adjustments- Hue/ Saturation and then i the Saturation bar and dragged it all the way down to make the pictures both black and white and then i made a new layer and used the brush tool and made it red so i drew over the eyes on the wolf so they went red on the picture and then i used Opacity so you can only just see it so it looks more like a ghost:

For my third and final picture i used these two pictures:

In these pictures i did pretty much the same as the other two but instead i didn't have to make the images black and white because they were already the colours i wanted to use:

Simple banner:

This is the first banner that i created, i started off by making a rectangle with the rectangle shape tool and then i used the pen anchor tool to select in the middle of the rectangle on each end and then i held Shift down and dragged it in a bit so it has the curved edges on it. Then i had to create a square by using the same tool apart from i held down the Shirt button and dragged so it created the square and then i selected the direct selection tool to select one of the sides then i had to drag i in so it had the line through the middle and then deleted one side of it so it looked like a triangle. Then i double clicked on the layer that it was on and then i went to Gradient overlay option and then i set the angle to -90 degrees and the scale 150, after i had to Edit > Transform > Flip Horizontal so it went to the other side without having to do it all over again. At this point it was time to add the text into the banner by using the Horizontal type tool and then i wrote 'Simple' into it and then i had to add the image that i wanted and then i also put a border around it.
Another banner that i created after learning how to do it:

Level 2- lesson for Wednesday

Today he have watched a short film called 'Wasp' by a woman called Andrea Arnold, the film is about an extremely poor family and the struggles of being hungry and having a mum that is trying to find a dad who has money to pay for the kids and she is fighting so her 4 kids wont be taken away from her and put into social services. At the start of the film is shows the hole family going to someones house and then the mum starts to attack someone because she hit her daughter. Once they stopped fighting the family started to walk away and then a car beeps at them and then the mum noticed that it is someone that she used to know. Then she told her children to sit down on the pavement while she goes to talk to him, while there talking he asks to meet her later that night down the pub and then he asks if the kids are hers but she told him that she is looking after them for a friend. Later that night she took the kids to the pub and then left them outside for the night while she was with the man, he asked her to buy some drinks but when she when she went to pay she didn't have enough so she had to get something else and she got a coke and a pack of crisps for the children to share so they wouldn't moan about being hungry and then later they were hungry again and the youngest one which was still a baby was crying because he was so hungry. But after a while these lads walked last with a bag of ribs in there hands and one of them made the other one drop them so the oldest one went to get them so they weren't as hungry anymore but then when there mum saw them she told her daughter off because she red the baby ribs so a wasp got attracted to the smell and then landed onto the baby's face and then flew inside the baby's mouth, but then it flew back out without stinging the baby. At this point the man worked out that the children were hers so he put them into the car and took them all to the chip shop and then that was the end of the film.

Research on Panasonic HDC 900 camera:
Research:
This is a Full HD 1920 x 1080/50p camcorder, which benefits from three 2.53MP sensors, uses the AVCHD recording format and has enough manual features and creative functions to keep even the most demanding movie maker happy.

What i know about this camera:
So far i know hot to turn the camera on by using a button at the side and i also know how to set the put it so it has thirds on the picture onto the camera. I also know how to zoom in and out by using the buttons at the top of the camera and also know hoe to talk pictures and how to start the video and how to sort out the white balance.

White balance:
White balance is basically changing the colours on the image and I know that if your whites are white and your blacks are black then you know that the rest of the colours would be right.
The White Balance setting you choose will change the colour balance in your pictures, making it warmer or cooler depending on how the sort of light you’re shooting in affects things.

Rule of thirds:
The Rule of Thirds is perhaps the most well known principle of photographic composition. The “Rule of Thirds” one of the first things that budding digital photographers learn about in classes on photography and rightly so as it is the basis for well balanced and interesting shots.

Tetley/ Tata

In this picture we had to go onto a website called 'Shop ethical' and then we had to find a company that is doing things wrong for example with the company that I chose it has military involvement and workers rights. In my picture I have put a gun instead of the letter 'L' because they have military involvement and I have also made the writing have camo inside it to also repulse my the military. For my finished logo I had to use photoshop to crop the different pictures and also to get different pictures off Google such as the picture of the gun and the camo background that I put into the writing onto the normal logo that they use for the company, to put the gun into the picture I had to get rid of the 'L' on the logo so I used the stamp tool to make it blend together so I will be able to put the gun in the same place to use it as the 'L'.

The next thing that we had to do was to create our finished product on Photoshop by using the tools and skills that we learn in our Photoshop lessons where we learn how to use it. To create my final product i had to use the Pen tool to cut around the inside of the letters so they didn't have anything inside them, i also found an image of camo and a shotgun on the internet to use on the image so i had to put the image of the camo behind the logo to cut the letters out to put them into the right place and then i also used the stamp tool to cover the 'L' to then put the image of the shotgun there:
http://www.ethical.org.au/3.4.2/get-informed/boycotts-criticisms/
This is the link to the website where i got the information from to create this image:
We were also asked to try and get some information of different websites to prove that this information is right to make sure that the website isn't giving any false information. So i went onto a different website to try and find out if it is true.

On this website it also says the problems that was told on the other one:

Research on tv adverts

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7dR28fXFDMI
This advert it about the new PlayStation 4 and it is showing loads of characters from the different games that they will bring out on it and also it has kind of merged them all into one so there all working together. The tempo of this advert is quite fast because it gets you heart beating faster and faster. The key of notes used are quite high and fast paced and they used the same notes but in different orders each time. They use both diegetic and non diegetic sounds in this advert because when you see the three boys playing football you cant hear it and however when you see the car being washed you can hear the water hitting it. In this advert they have used loads of different shots such as: Extreme wide shot, Very wide shot, Wide shot, Mid shot and Medium close up.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=R55e-uHQna0
In this advert it is about Volkswagen and a new car that they have brought out and in the advert they have dressed a little child up as Darth Vader trying to use the force to do things in the house and then his dad gets home in the new car and the child runs out and tries to lock the car by using the force but then the car locks and he looks really shocked and then it goes to  a scene inside with his dad holding the car key with his finger on the lock button. All together i believe that they have made this advert to show that the car is out of this world. They have also used the Star Wars song through out the the advert which makes it more dramatic. In this advert they have used a range of shots such as: Wide shot, Close up, Two-shot and Medium close up.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AYskrC0W0IE
This advert was about a product called Mac which are a makeup company, they advertise there product by showing before they put the makeup on and then showing the end results with it on them. They also used the song 'I Love It' in the advert to say that the women in the advert love it so you will and the Tempo of the song is quite fast and it gets your heart racing thinking about buying it and being different. The key notes that they used in this advert were all quite high and i'd say that it has loads of major keys in it because the song makes you feel happy about yourself. The shot they have used the most in this advert is a Close up and Medium close ups and extreme close ups.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2XGM8b_fjww
In this advert it shows a couple buying a sofa 3 different ways: On the computer, in the store and on your phone. The song that they have chose for this advert makes you happy and it always says 'let me make it easy for you' because its saying that that company is easy to use and simple. The tempo of the song is quite fast and there are quite alot of non diegetic sounds in this advert for example when you can hear the voice of the woman talking but you cant see her. In the advert it uses a range of shots such as close ups, Medium close ups, Wide shot, mid shot and cut-in.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ccNzBhTcehs
This advert is about Coca Cola and it is a Christmas advert. The song on this advert is like it was made for Christmas and in the advert it shows loads of Christmas Coca Cola trucks driving down the road. The tempo of this song is very fast and it reminds you of Christmas with all the bells and the notes that they use in the song.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=K0t-aBAYym8er
Yhis advert is about Calvin Klein underwear and there isnt really a song for this advert it's just drumming through the whole advert apart from when Justin said 'My Calvins'. The tempo of this song is is quite fast and there is a rang of different notes which rang from high to low. The diegetic sounds in this advert are when Justin is drumming and when you can see him speak.

learning about the camera

Today we have learnt about the cameras that we will be using for this course. We learnt the basics on how to use the camera, change the settings and the different parts on the camera.

In these pictures we had to draw the front, back and top of the camera and then label the different parts e.g:
  • Lens - Optical lens or assembly of lenses used in conjunction with a camera body and mechanism to make images of objects, either on photographic film or on other media capable of storing an image chemically or electronically.
  • Shutter button- a push-button found on many cameras, used to take a picture.
  • Camera On/Off switch- Turns the camera on and off. Also if you hold it down half way it focuses the camera and it adjusts to the light.
  • Viewfinder- Lets you see what your taking the picture of.
  • Playback mode- Lets you view what image you have taken before you put it onto the computer.
  • Macro- A setting on a digital camera that enables users to focus on subjects close to the camera lens. Macro mode is commonly used to photographing flowers, insects and other small items that you want a close-up view of.
  • Flash- A flash pops up from on the camera when you want to take a picture in a dark/ dim space.
  • Self timer settings- Allows you to set a timer depending on how long you want it to in case you want to get into the picture so it will give you enough time to.
  • Delete button- It allows you to delete the images that you don't want straight from the camera.
  • Menu/set button- Allows you to control most of the camera settings.
  • Mode button- Lets you change the mode that you take the pictures in. for example: P(program), A(aperture), S(shutter speed), M(manual) and Auto(automatic).

Creating an image with different body parts

Today we have created an image by using body parts from different pictures. We cut them out by using the pen tool and then we copied and pasted it so we could get rid of the rest of the image, but still have the part of the body that we still wanted to have. Then putting them all together so it would make an image of something freaky.
Before we did this image we were taught how to use the lasso tool and the rectangular and elliptical marquee tool to cut out an image and them lastly we were taught how to use the pen tool to cut out the images that we were told to do.
Also we were taught how to undo things that you did by an accident by using Ctrl + Z to undo the last thing that we did, also when we were using the lasso tool we were taught how to Inverse the image by going to select and then inverse.
